Fashion On-Screen
Fashion On-Screen: the second zine I have created as part of my research. For this mini project that I set myself, I decided to search through all the TV magazines I had in my house and check out what was new or recent film and TV wise. I was really pleased with my results, finding many period dramas and films set in the past, all with fantastic wardrobes. One I particularly enjoy watching myself is Stranger Things which is set in 1980. As this is a decade I hear my mum talk about a lot as it was the one in which she grew up in, I am really interested in the retro clothing and setting that the Netflix show has. This is also why I chose to do the other side of my zine full of outfits influenced by the power dressing decade of the 80's. I love that everything is full of colour and everything is big and bold; the shoulder pads of the white dress and blue metallic top are a huge statement pulled right from an episode of Dynasty.
Also in my research through magazines, I found recent films that have been released that are set in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. These being; Fences, Hidden Figures and Loving. This particularly interested me as all have powerful black women as lead roles, which is fantastic since these decades are all a time where racism was still very much tolerated and ignored.
I have decided that I am going to do some extra research around TV shows as well as film in order to get an all round view of fashion infront of a camera instead of just on film. Once again, I extremely enjoyed creating this mini zine as they don't take very long but look great and authentic once they're finished. I will definitely look into making another one as my research continues.
